The essence of Buddhism among the Rabha tribes
“We can never obtain
peace in the outer world until we make peace within ourselves”- Buddha
Extreme patience and endurance have been the utmost reflective qualities of the Rabha tribe since it’s been known to the mainstream. It is a general belief that the earlier predecessors of the Rabha tribes were arduous followers of the much-emphasized path of Buddha. Though the mythical archive doesn’t provide many catalogs of the influence of Buddhism within the then socio-cultural set-up, the accumulation of the entire visible specialty has been the concrete evidence to specify the stand here.
Time and again it has been exposed in various social and cultural segregations that the Rabha tribe has been the sole of its kind in the dichotomy of enduring the extreme ethnic mobilization. A deep generalization would certainly create a varied catastrophe for being in the category of prolonging isolated communities. However, archeologically it has proven from the various excavations in their predecessor’s habitual habitant that before the spiritual reformation Buddhism was the only principle within this tribe. For strong evidence, the remaining of many Buddhist shrines in Sri Surya Pahar and also the Rendu Pendu Pahar within Goalpara District of Assam are some of those caricatures to be named. The actual transition from the path of Buddhism is specifically determined through the introduction of Hinduism and then Sanskritization accordingly. Meanwhile, various social and religious reformations have been a vital part in varying the existing social setup.
